Front-end profile editing

Page 1 of 4Next

I forked asgaros-forum and have been working on adding front-end profile editing, integrated into the profile view and navigation.  It’s done but I’ll continue testing.  I’ll wait until @asgaros is done with the big private forum effort and does an update before submitting a pull request.

Hello @jim

Wow, that looks great! Feel free to make a PR already since this feature is kind of unrelated to Private Forums. So I dont think it will have a negative side-effect on it. 🙂

If you want to support the development of Asgaros Forum, you can leave a good review or donate. Thank you very much!

Great job. How can I get it?

@jim

That looks like the best solution so far, but it seems you’ve not been around for more than a few months …
Hope you see this somehow.
Is there anywhere to buy/download your plugin?

Thanks so much!

A few weeks ago I managed to integrate the edit-profile functionality into the current version of Asgaros Forum, 2.6.0.  I put it on github (https://github.com/glorious1/asgaros-forum/tree/master), but honestly, the more I use github the less I understand it and the more certain I become that I never will.

I will try to attach it as a zip file which should be easy to try out.  For safety I suggest you back up your site first and try it in a staging site if possible.  It works fine for me, but no guarantees.

How do I update the current forum using your archive? I wouldn’t want to lose the information.

@workpage I don’t understand what you’re asking for.  I attached the zip with all the forum changes.  There are no other updates.

Regarding how to try it out (“update”),

  1. In WordPress admin, deactivate the Asgaros forum plugin
  2. FTP into your site and rename the plugin folder, like add BAK to the name
  3. Back in admin, go to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin > Browse, and select the zip file (that you downloaded from my previous post) from your local computer’s hard drive.
  4. Choose to activate it.

If you don’t like the result, just undo: deactivate, rename, then rename the original to the original name, then reactivate.

As long as you don’t delete the plugin from Wordpress admin, you shouldn’t lose any of your data or settings.  But I also suggested backing up just in case.

NOTE: I set this up to fit my website.  I require people to register with a give name and family name, as well as a user name.  So the edit-profile page will require that when you edit your profile.  This will need a minor modification for a site without that requirement.

I tested your plugin and this is what I found out. Your plugin is not editable if you want to change colors, for example, and many functions also disappear

How to implement the profile editing menu itself and not install everything?
