Emoticons & shortcodes parsed inside the editor when opening a post!

I hope you had a nice summer!
Any news regarding the ticket on the WordPress side? Any link to follow it?
I still think it would have more weight if you open it (as the forum author).
Thanks! 🙂

Unfortunately not yet. I also think that it will be one of those things which nobody wants to touch – same as you can see for Elementor. While this “functionality” can cause a lot of troubles, some other extensions maybe rely on it in some way. A more simple way to reproduce would be also helpful because at the moment it requires a website with a plugin using the editor and another plugin which is adding unicode/emoticons which can be edited inside of the frontend.

Maybe, we’ll see for Elementor as well as WP but if no one is reporting it, it will never be fixed.
And it’s not because, “maybe”, some others may use this issue, that it should not be fixed as it’s just not a normal behaviour and creates issues for many plug-ins.
BTW, if other impacted plug-in authors would join the claim it would help.A more simple way to reproduce would be also helpful because at the moment it requires a website with a plugin using the editor and another plugin which is adding unicode/emoticons which can be edited inside of the frontend.
I really don’t see any issue there.
It’s quite easy to reproduce:
- Install & activate TinyMCE Advanced (few clicks)
Andrew is even one of the core developer of WP and his plug-in is directly impacted!
https://profiles.wordpress.org/azaozz/- Install & activate Asgaros (few clicks)
- Create a WP page, add the [forum] shortcode in it, Publish, View the page
- Just use the default Asgaros forum, click on New Topic, add a smiley and Submit the post
- Edit the post and that’s it, done! You should see the smiley BBcode replaced by an image while it’s not the case if smilies are added in pages or blog posts and this posts are edited.
It’s even easier than for the Elementor side (2 plug-ins instead of 3, creation of the forum page easier) and one of the lead developer of WP has one of his very popular plug-in directly affected!

Quote from FTP on September 23, 2019, 10:50 amOooops… looks like you were too pessimistic Thomas 🙂
I just tried to reproduce the issue and it was not there any more!!!
Even on my website in production, if I removed the temp fix you gave me to add in functions.php of my theme, the behaviour was now normal. Smilies were not replaced by images any more.So it looked like something was changed:
- either you added the temporary fix in your versions since the 1.14.10,
- or something was changed in WP 5.2.3.
And the answer iiiiis…
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/47489It has been fixed by WP one month ago as others had the problem and opened a ticket!
Good, so this issue is fixed and I can remove the temp fix.
Just need to push Elementor but it looks like it will not be easy 🙁

Thank you 🙂

Unfortunately this is a bug caused by Elementor for which I already have opened a ticket:
https://github.com/elementor/elementor/issues/8371
This issue cant be fixed in Asgaros Forum directly.
