SEO Problems

Page 1 of 3Next

I am having some SEO problems with this application! Titles no longer show. Like so Fourm Topic – Site name, it just says Forum – site name for all topics and posts.

Do you have conflict problems with yoast? or can you tell me how to fix it?

Hi BBN,

Exclude forum(page) from processing in settings yoast seo

Not to sound like a dummy but Yoast has a lot of settings where would you do that?

Would it not be easier for you to fix the problem you have with Yoast? I mean a lot of sites use it.

Usually there’s only one problem with him and she’s here.

I do not have one now Yoast, but in the exclusion settings. Or on the page where the shortcode

Turning that setting to redirect brakes the forum to where it does not go the the link it only works with no redirect set!

Can you be more clear what the problem is with Yoast SEO is and a direct fixed as nothing at this point apart from turning off Yoast SEO works what’s not going to happen as this is the only plugin having problems with it.

What you on about shortcode? There no where that i know of to disable it for one page….

I dont exactly know whats the problem with Yoast SEO. I just overwrite the title for forum-pages via a filter because WordPress by default just use the WordPress page-title. And Yoast SEO is doing some magic with the WordPress page-title as well. So the problem is, that Yoast SEO is not using the modified title when it is changed via the official WordPress filters.

You should contact the Yoast SEO support and ask them for a configuration which enforces Yoast SEO to work with modified page titles when other plugins changes them. Maybe they have an idea.

I just had a look with Yoast SEO installed and its really a pain in the ass because of the way Yoast SEO changes/filters the title.

Basically I can implement the forum-title-modification in a way X in which it is working perfectly fine with default WordPress filters when Yoast SEO is not installed.

I can also implement the forum-title-modification in a way Y in which it is working perfectly fine with default WordPress filters when Yoast SEO is installed.

But both ways have the disadvantage that the implementation is not working anymore when I activate/disable Yoast SEO, based on the way in which I implemented it.

So what does this mean? To make it work in both scenarios I would have to add a third implementation Z which calls specific third-party filters of the Yoast SEO plugin. And I really dont want to add third-party implementations because this is code which is useless for people which are not using the Yoast SEO plugin and which I have to maintain and check with every update of Asgaros Forum and Yoast SEO to ensure compatibility.

Another point why I dont want to start with this third-party-code-implementation: When I do it for one plugin, people expect that I will do it for other popular plugins as well. This will bloat the size of the code drastically and makes it impossible for me alone to maintain it in the long-term run.

I will keep an eye on it. Maybe there will be a better way in implementing this one day. In the meantime you should ask the Yoast SEO support if there is a way to disable the plugin for the forum-page only while it stays activated for other areas of your website.

Edit: Here is an example on how to disable Yoast SEO for a specific page:

I get some off your points in your last post but it’s just odd.

Can I pay you to implement it on our code only? I don’t really want to be messing about with the functions file and then to do so every time wordpress updates itself.

I will also ask Yoast SEO on how they think the best way is to go about it. But as the developer of the plugin would it not be best for you as well to do so?

I will try to figure out a way and let you know about it in this topic.

I think I found some way. If you are fine in modifying files you can have a look at the following GitHub-commit:

https://github.com/Asgaros/asgaros-forum/commit/e6b01c94e312b2f4f45f014612b7980d4b6f23ee

You can also download the development-version and upload it on your server:

This change will be included in the upcoming v1.7 release. 🙂
