Send Email to Post in Forum
Quote from Apos37 on June 14, 2019, 5:01 pmIs there a way that we can send an email to the site and have it post in a specific topic on the forum? I’m thinking like WordPress has the option of email-to-post, but onto the forum. This would be a great tool to have as we have several employees and vendors that currently email everything and don’t want to fuss with getting on our website everytime to post. It would be nice for them to just add an email to the BCC. Just a thought…

I dont think that such a functionality is possible in WordPress. Mails are getting processed by your mail-server so actually what you need for this is some kind of plugin for your mail-server which scans mails and triggers actions based on it. You can try to check the documentation of your hosting provider, maybe they offer some details on how to configure your mail-server for adding scripts based on certain actions.

Quote from grindstr on June 23, 2019, 12:35 pmIf you check out “Postie Plugin” you are able to send email to a specific address that is directed directly to your i.e Blog Page. I’m also looking for the same functionality and was thinking of an integration with Viber, that are doing more or less the same. I guess it’s possible, but someone have to make a Plugin for this.
The only Plugin I found in Asgaros Forum (from @djo) is a payed Viber integrated Plugin from a Russian site in Russian language. Unfortunately I don’t understand Russian and it’s too risky for me to rely on. I really don’t know how it works, that’s why I want to try before pay.

Quote from Asgaros on June 23, 2019, 7:47 pm@grindstr Mh okay, actually the plugin works the other way around: You add the login-information for a specific mail-account and it regularly checks the mail-inbox for topics.
I can take this suggestion under consideration but I am not sure if I add this in the near future. It also comes with possible risks regarding author-assignments. For such a functionality the post-assignment will be based on the sender-mail-address. However, its easy to manipulate the mail-address so that some users can assign posts to a different user in case they know the mail-address of him.

Quote from grindstr on June 23, 2019, 9:37 pmOk, thanks for this clarification.
The Postie plugin hints you to create very specific and complicated mail address only known for a handful of people you want to send Blog message. You also filter “from addresses” so that you only pick up Mail from accepted from addresses. This way you a more secure. But of course, you can never be sure.
So far I have not experience any problem, even with the Blog or Mail account. How this can be done with Viber, I don’t know.
I have only used the Forum for a short time and I like it very much. My idea is to use the forum for a closed group of people from different countries in a project that I run. The problem is that some of the people in the group finds it easier to use Viber (maybe because of translation or they are traveling) when comments on topics regarding the project. Then they sends this to me and I have to manually put this is the Forum. If it was possible to get Viber message directly into the Forum it will make it easier for everyone to see.

Quote from pb52 on January 26, 2020, 1:40 pmI too would like to see the ability to post and reply to a post by email (PBE).
Berkshire Family History Society, for whom I volunteer as webmaster, is about to transfer from an email discussion list to Asgaros and PBE would make the transition easier for some of our older and more technophobic members.
But, putting that demographic issue aside, there are times when you’re out and about for instance, when it’s much easier to just bash out an email than it is to run the forum application on your mobile device.
By the way, I love Asgaros. After struggling with bbpress for a while it was refreshing to install Asgoras and find that it runs virtually out of the box. Good job!
