paid section of blog?

Hi I am wondering if it is possible to have a paid membership area that is a premuim part of the forum – say where people can advertise items for sale?

You mean a custom area which is only accessible for premium-members? You can use usergroups for this and restrict the access to certain categories for those specific usergroups only.
