Image file extensions

Normally we have no problem with uploading images. However recently someone was trying to upload an image and couldn’t although previously he had had no problems. It turned out that the image he was trying to upload had an upper case .JPG file extension. I changed this to lower case .jpg and everything worked OK as expected.

I then tried to add the upper case file extensions in the Forum settings menu but they were automatically changed back to lower case.

Can this be changed in the Forum settings or is it a Wordpress Theme problem?

Hello @richards

The filename-validation should automatically convert the file-type into a lower-case value and compare it against a lower-case-list of the allowed file-types. I just checked it on my development-installation and it is working perfectly fine. Are you using the latest version of the forum?

Thanks for the answer and that is what I would have expected. Yes, I have the latest version.

I will try to upload the file with upper case file extension here. This didn’t work on my forum so if it works here it must be due to my Wordpress installation.

This is an odd one. Just looking at it again, I find that I can upload other images with .JPG endings but not the one in question. If I save it with a .jpg extension it works OK

Sorry, of course I have already tested it on your forum so you don’t need to look at it. But it seems to be specific to this image or series of images.

Are you maybe using some kind of security-extension which for some reason prevents you from uploading that file?

No, I can’t find any reason. Just have to accept it is as it is!
