Usually new topics should already get highlighted in blue which indicates that you havent read them yet or that they contain new posts – as you can also see in this support forum. Is this not working on your site?

The first post is just a sticky post. They always get highlighted a bit.

Please take a look at the picture below. Every topic you have read is marked grey. Topics which are new or contain new posts are shown in blue which helps you to recognize new content.

You can also enable the Activity feature in the forum-settings which lists you all new topics/posts ordered by date.
