about new link format

In some non-English language [such as Chinese], the new link format is definitely a disaster. . . . The new link format was temporarily canceled. . .

Hello @googlo

Can you give some more details and/or example about what is not looking correctly? Do you have any suggestions on how to improve it? The new slugs for the links works the same as in WordPress by default.

So for example a WordPress page called 你好 looks like this:

  • mysite.com/你好

Its the same for the forum where a topic called 再见 looks like that:

  • mysite.com/forum/topic/再见

@asgaros

Websites in other languages are not very clear. The Chinese website absolutely avoids the use of Chinese itself as a URL. Because of encoding problems, Chinese characters are encoded as very long “garbled characters.” These “garbled characters” can be displayed in the browser in Chinese. After it came out, it was still “garbage”.

For example: mysite.com/forum/topic/再见
The actual URL is: mysite.com/forum/topic/%E5%86%8D%E8%A7%81
This is two words. If it is a long Chinese, it is simply. . .
For example: mysite.com/forum/topic/关于论坛插件的固定连接格式的问题
The actual connection is: mysite.com/forum/topic/%E5%85%B3%E4%BA%8E%E8%AE%BA%E5%9D%9B%E6%8F%92%E4%BB%B6%E7 %9A%84%E5%9B%BA%E5%AE%9A%E8%BF%9E%E6%8E%A5%E6%A0%BC%E5%BC%8F%E7%9A%84%E9%97 %AE%E9%A2%98

The Chinese website is generally two ways.
One is the Chinese alphabet [or English].
For example: mysite.com/forum/topic/再见
Change to mysite.com/forum/topic/zaijian
Or mysite.com/forum/topic/bye
Another number
For example, mysite.com/forum/topic/123
Corresponds to WordPress is poitid

Ps. I don’t know if there will be this problem in other languages, but Asian languages certainly have this problem.

Hello @googlo

Thank you for your explanation. I think a conversion from chinese characters to pinyin is not possible for me because I would need some third-party libraries for it and I would have to implement something else for other non-latin languages as well.

I think a good solution would be an option which allows you to change between slugs and ids. I will try to add this in a future update.

I added it to my todo-list:

Hello again @googlo

A new functionality will be included in the upcoming v1.14 update which includes a couple of new settings for URLs. Those settings allow you to use IDs instead of slugs in SEO-friendly URLs for topics, posts and/or profiles:

The v1.14 update will be available later this month.
