User Roles: WordPress vs Asgaros Forum Roles
Quote from Viajero on August 15, 2022, 7:37 pmI am trying to understand how to differentiate the different roles between WordPress and the Asgaros Forums roles. I have recently taken over the administration of a website and the previous admin has 7 WordPress administrators. He told me they helped him moderate the forums and remove users who post spammy stuff. I see the different sections on the WordPress profile page for the roles but the problem I have is the WordPress admin users don’t show a selection box for roles under the Forum section. I have verified they actually have registered in the forums, so why isn’t there a selection box? I would like to demote the other WordPress admins to ‘editors’ or something and assign them as ‘admins’ for the forums.
Many thanks in advance,

Quote from Viajero on August 15, 2022, 9:10 pmOk, I figured it out. A person designated as a WordPress admin does not have the forums role selection box visible. Most likely because they can’t be a lesser role in the forums. But when I change a user from WordPress admin to editor role then the forum role selection box becomes visible and I can designate them as a forums admin. And in their profile inside the forums they are labeled as an ‘administrator’ so unless they are specifically informed of the change they won’t know.
In general, I don’t want multiple people as WordPress administrators. First of all, whenever you give someone an elevated privilege it is very difficult to later remove it without causing some heartburn. Second, I don’t want multiple people as admins for security reasons. I don’t know if they have complex passwords or if they have reused their password in other places. And most likely they are not using two factor authentication if it is not set up in the WordPress installation.
