do you get some detailled error messages? 500 is an internal server error which usually happens when there is some wrong configuration. Are you sure that you only updated the forum plugin and not other stuff as well? I only added some non-critical lines of code and didnt hear about that problem from other users. Try to disable caching-stuff and check if your server software is up2date – especially php. Maybe this helps.
