Spam Forum Registration + Posts

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately the site has been getting quite a lot of registrations that are a bit sinister. Some people posting about their fake money services, others just signing up with very strange email addresses.

I’ve enabled recapcha on the registration form and made it so that an activation email is required to complete the registration process to try to prevent the above but it still seems to be an issue.

Has anyone any ideas on how else to try and prevent this from happening?

They are @gmail.com and @tfbnw.net accounts.

Kind regards,

Tim

Hey @timmy321,

I’m working right now on a solution to integrate into my plugin Toolbox for Asgaros Forum:

  • don’t allow users to insert a link in the post or only after a certain amount of posts
  • filter spam automatically and don’t publish it
  • and more

It’s always important to keep your forum clean. Spam will attract other spamers.

Hi @qualmy91

That sounds like a very useful addition and I look forward to installing those options!

I hope you’re well!

NICE, i’m looking forward to it

@timmy321, please get it done fast! I need it. I use CleanTalk.org and it catches a lot. But I have had issues with post-bombings in a foreign language. It starts with a legitimate seeming registration and two posts. If I don’t notice them fast enough, my site gets bombed every few seconds with the exact same message–all except a different university name is in the subject line. It’s in the middle of the night and I can wake up to 400 messages. I’m sure all of my forum members have turned off the flag to be notified of new posts, which pretty much kills the forum. A stop-list feature would help, I think, since the word “casino” keeps showing up. Help us!
