Yes, this should be the default behavior. I assume that some other extension is modifying this login/register behavior so you should check out their settings.

Ideally I’m trying to create a forum signup like the attached link. Is there anyway we could create something to mimic this or will it always go to the WP login?

There are also WordPress extensions for this which allows you to create a login/register page inside your frontend instead of the WP Login area (which is the default behavior). I cant give you a suggestion because I dont any of those for my websites. The best is to have a look in the official plugin directory. 🙂

Now the new issue, I’m having is I don’t have the user profile page like you do when a user signs in to be able to change their avatar and settings.  Is their something in the settings I need to enable to have the exact same set up like you do? I noticed when I reset my password it would take me to the backend for my account on your forum.

Users have to go to the backend in general to change their avatars and settigs. Its the same on this website. I am not exactly sure whats the point. Do you want to have those settings available in your front-end-profile?

No, there is no front-end editing available at the moment. You can read about the reasons in this topic. But I think I will add a button to the back-end to the profile-view so its more easier for users to access it.

Edit: I just added it to the dev-version.
