Moving a post

Is it possible for a moderator to move a post that has been made in an inappropriate forum?

Hello @gespanne

When you are a moderator/administrator you should find a Move button at the upper-right area next to the Delete/Sticky/Close/Reply buttons which allows you to move a topic to another forum.

If you want to support the development of Asgaros Forum, you can leave a good review or donate. Thank you very much!

Thanks for the quick reply.  I’m asking because we paid [a lot of money] to have our old MegaBBS forum converted to wpForo.  We found that wpForo lacks a few features that we are used to having.  It appears that Asgaros has those features but we are a little shy to make another jump that might turn out to be a mistake.

  1. Do you have a “sandbox” where I can play in the administrator role?
  2. Do you know of any tools that might make a wpForo to Asgaros migration possible nd hopefully easy?
  3. How is Asgaros monetized?
  4. Do you accept commissions to create custom features?

Thanks,

OK, I just thought of two more questions.

  1. Can we add fields to the user profile?  We’d like to force the user to give us a location.
  2. Can we assign a user role based on a field in the profile?  We’d like to give special access to private forums to our members.  Ideally, we’d like to compare a member number to a list of active member numbers and give access based on that.

Thanks,

Al

Hello again, @gespanne

Do you have a “sandbox” where I can play in the administrator role?

There is no public administration-demo available at the moment. But dont be affraid to install Asgaros Forum on your development-installation. One of the main aspects during development was to keep the system as clean as possible, which means: If you uninstall Asgaros Forum, all data stored by the plugin will be removed completely.

Do you know of any tools that might make a wpForo to Asgaros migration possible nd hopefully easy?

I dont provide any import/export scripts by myself. The reason for this is, that I am basically working on this project alone which makes it impossible for me to develop and maintain import/export scripts for all those forum-systems out there. I am aware that wpForo has an Asgaros Forum -> wpForo migration script – so maybe its also working the other way around with a couple of custom modifications.

How is Asgaros monetized?

Asgaros Forum does not have any ads-management system yet. But: There are a lot of hooks available which you can use to show custom content (or ads) in different locations: upper/lower area of certain views, after the first post inside a topic, etc.

Do you accept commissions to create custom features?

As a developer I also provide paid custom implementations/modifications or extended support.

Can we add fields to the user profile?  We’d like to force the user to give us a location.

If the location is already collected by another plugin (for example via some profile-management plugin or during registration process) you can easily show those custom data in the profile area via the asgarosforum_custom_profile_content hook.

Can we assign a user role based on a field in the profile?

This is not possible at the moment. I dont know which plugin you use for managing custom profile fields but based on it, it might be possible to create some custom script which automatically adds certain users based on it to a specific Asgaros Forum usergroup. Otherwise you can also easily manage your users/usergroups manually via the default WordPress user-management inside the administration-area. Asgaros Forum comes with bulk-actions and filtering of the user-list which allows you to add multiple users to certain usergroups easily.

Thank you, Thomas.  It was kind of you to answer this multi-part question.
