I would really like "quote selected" feature
Quote from Fishtail on February 1, 2019, 2:12 amHi,
If I’m responding to a longer post someone has written, I would really like the possibility to quote a few lines of text rather than the entire blob.
I don’t see a “quote selected” option. If I click “quote”, even when I have only a portion of the content highlighted, it still posts the entire text.
Can we please get a “quote selected” feature?

Fishtail,
You can edit the quoted item. I just highlighted portions of your text and deleted. As you can see, you can add things as well.

As already mentioned by Gespanne it is possible to adjust the quote inside the editor. This allows you to only quote a specific part of an entire post or quote different parts separately (you can also use the blockquote-button in the editor for this).

Could you please show me how to do the “quote selected” option if it exists?
That would be great!

Hi Fishtail,
Gespanne [me] is just another user and an admirer of the Asgaros forum. It just happened that I had a similar issue and figured it out so I thought I’d share.

Just directly edit the quoted text inside the message-editor. 🙂

Uploaded files:Quote from Fishtail on February 14, 2019, 5:49 amBut if you’re responding to a 10 paragraph post, and want to do line by line, it’s not really simple to delete a billion characters in a little box easily…it’s tedious. Even more so on a phone x100.
How hard would it be to have it be a built-in feature (seen it on other forums) where you can highlight a portion of text and quote only that part?

Quote from Asgaros on February 14, 2019, 10:56 am@fishtail A function for this is possible but would require a ton of logic because it comes with a lot of error-possibilities:
- If you select a text which is not a part of a post, what should happen?
- If you select a text where only a part belongs to a post, what should happen?
It would also be very difficult to detect, to which person a selected text might belong.
I am also not sure if there is a big difference if you have to remove 10 paragraphs from a quoted text or select 10 paragraphs one by one to quote them. Both ways are more or less complex – based on what you do.

Quote from Fishtail on February 16, 2019, 8:05 amHmm. I see.
I know simple machines forum had that feature and you could only quote from inside of the message text, not outside the box, but I get if that stuff like that could take a lot of time and work to develop. Since this post was made, I got a much bigger problem than quoting text lol (like losing all the forum content, many hours of “work”…)
Thanks for your reply.
What about the ability to create polls or anything like that? Are there any Asgaros plug ins or added features? What about making the forum look prettier or customizable backgrounds/colors and things like that?
Also what’s the best way to insert a picture into the forum post? I’ve used imgur and just stuck the link in there, but is there another or an easier way?

A poll-functionality is on my todo-list and I hope that I can include it in one of the next bigger updates:
https://github.com/Asgaros/asgaros-forum/issues/195
Asgaros Forum provides basic customization-options in Forum -> Appearance. Advanced modifications can be applied by using custom css-code which can be added using the Custom Code textfield.
If you enable uploads, uploaded pictures will be included automatically inside of your posts. I also plan to make improvements to the upload-functionality in future updates.
