Forum pages do not show latest posts/topics due … caching(?)
Quote from MrChops on May 1, 2024, 5:11 pmHi All,
A couple of months ago I added an Asgaros forum to our club website. I have had repeated reports from members that when they go to the forum they don’t see the latest posts on a topic or the recently added topics. I am assuming that this is because the pages are being cached along the way, but I’m not sure how to stop this from happening. The website is a GoDaddy hosted Wordpress site. I’ve not set anything specific with regards to caching settings and I’m not using any third-party caching plugins. Although plenty of members do not see any issues, many do. I realise that pages might be cached anywhere between the server and the browser, but I’m finding some really inconsistent behaviour. Some members report that turning off a VPN causes the current forum page to be reloaded, others that logging in to the forum causes the current forum page to be reloaded. I can understand the reasons why this might work for them, however these workarounds don’t work consistently for everyone who has problems. I’ve also seen cases of the browser cache being cleared and a reload of the forum page still showing the out of date page.
Any help on this would be really appreciated as a number of forum members are getting increasingly vocal about how unhappy they are with being unable to see the latest info. Given my pretty much default configuration of everything I can’t imagine that I’m the first person who has run into these issues.
Thanks,
Steve

It realy sounds like a caching problem. Can you please share the link to the forum so I can check if I can see anything causing the problem?

The forum can be found at:
https://invernesscc.co.uk/forum/
After a bit more investigation on my part, and some searching on the web for people with similar issues, I am beginning to think that it must be the hosting site (GoDaddy) that’s most likely to be the problem. If you time to take a look and see if you can see anything that might be causing the issues that would be great.
Thanks for any help and advice you can give me,
Steve

It seems that Godaddy caches your entire page by default. To exclude the forum page, just follow the instructions on their support page and add the URL of your forum there:
https://www.godaddy.com/help/cache-exceptions-41618
And let me know if that does not work.
