Error displaying forum

After installation I get an error just displaying the forum even before any customisation has taken place:

Warnig: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in /home/xxx/public_html/xxx.com/wp-includes/post-template.php on line 316

A quick Google looks like it may be an incompatibility with newer PHP versions?

Can you let me know the exact region on where this issue happened and provide full details about in which file of the forum-plugin this error happened? It should be included in the full error-message.
