Editor disappeared

Hi there – I’m hoping you can help me on this one – my edit toolbar has disappeared from my discussion forum and I can now only use text to post.

I’m running the very latest update 1.7.0

It used to appear – I can’t tell you when it disappeared as I’ve only just noticed it.

I’ve tried selecting and un-selecting the “use minimalistic editor” option but this has no effect at all – please can you advise?

Hello AndrewV,

have you disabled JavaScript in your browser (in your settings, via a no-script plugin, etc)? Otherwise I assume, that its a problem with your theme or a plugin which prevents the editor from working on your frontend or generating a JavaScript itself which could break the editor as well. Can you check this?

Thanks for the response – definitely not the browser as I see the toolbar perfectly in this form that I’m typing in right now.

I’ve been going through every plugin and deactivating them one by one to see if any of them are stopping this – I’ve asked the other site admin if he has tinkered with the theme but he insists not – the frustrating thing is that it used to work just fine!

I’m going to ask if any new javascript was introduced – again I don’t think so – this has had me scratching my head for a few hours now 😥

Can you switch back to a default WordPress theme for testing purposes to figure out if its a theme-related propblem? When you post a link to your site I could have a look if there is some JavaScript error.

Problem solved – many thanks for your advice – there was a javascript optimisation plugin causing problems – everything is as it should be once again!

We’re trying to add forum to our site and experiencing quite the same.

@andrewv could you detail it a bit? What plugin was that (or which code caused it)?

You can try to disable other plugins one by one for testing purposes. This should help you to identify the troublemaker in no time. 🙂
