Dutch translations added – What now?

Page 1 of 2Next

I’m a native speaker of the Dutch national language. It occurred to me that a lot of the text strings in the Asgaros Forum where untranslated (still English). I did enter the missing translations here but don’t know if I should do anything else to have them activated.

I entered the translations into the “Development (trunk)”, I don’t know if that’s the right place to be.

Moreover, I noticed that many text strings that were already translated, were not in accordance with the “Glossary for Dutch” style guide. However, I found it a bit presumptuous to change these.

Lou

Hello @lou-van-wijhe

First of all: Sorry for the late reply. I am still on vacation so I dont have much time to check the forum regularly.

Because I only upload stable-versions on WordPress the best place to add or edit translations would be in the Stable (latest release) area. Usually some official WordPress translation editor for Dutch has to approve pending translations. I cant do it because I dont speak the language. Thats one of the rules to keep the translations at a good level.

If you are interested I can request you as a new Plugin Translation Editor for Asgaros Forum. In this case you can approve/reject your or other users translations so they will be available via the WordPress Updater once the translation-status reaches 100% for Stable (latest release).

If you are interested in being a Plugin Translation Editor for Asgaros Forum please let me know so I can send a request to the WordPress Plugin Translation Team.

Thank you,

Thomas

Thanks for responding, Thomas (and sorry for interrupting your holiday!). Please do ask the translation team to add me as a new Plugin Translation editor for the Asgaros Forum. At the moment Dutch users are presented with a mix of Dutch and English text, which is confusing and unnecessary.

I regret I have added some hundred text translations in the wrong place, I should have asked beforehand. If I cannot copy them to the Stable (latest release) area, I suppose I need to enter them all over again…

Lou
P.S.
I just read the following in the Translation Handbook FAQ:

Should I translate both Stable and Dev? Should I translate both Stable and Dev?

Since mid-April 2016, not only new strings but also edits are synced between dev and stable (both ways, only approved translations).
When a plugin releases a new version all translations are copied from dev to stable. Credits would go to both users if translation (waiting or current) was created by different users.

Does this mean I don’t have to enter my translations waiting in the Dev area anew?

Hello again, @lou-van-wijhe

I just made a request here:

Hello Polyglots, I am the…

I am not sure if you need to add all of them again. Maybe they are applied automatically after approval with the next update. Lets see. But I am not sure yet when the next version is ready – so adding them again later would be a more faster and safe way I think.

Hello Thomas,

I approved the translations I had entered and thereafter they were visible in Dev as well as in Stable. Apparently both areas are synced. Moreover, after returning to my forum all new translations were already applied.

I’m just not sure if the texts in the Development Readme and the Stable Readme area should be translated as well. I wonder if these are helpful at all for standard forum users.

Lou

Hello @lou-van-wijhe

I am glad to hear that everything went well with the translations. Thank you for your help to translate Asgaros Forum!

I think translating the readme is not necessary because it would be too time-consuming. 99% of its content consists of the changelog anyway.

Hello @lou-van-wijhe and @asgaros,

Today I installed the new update for the forum. Nice new feature is the list of unread topics (thanks for that!). Some things have not been translated yet. I would kindly like to offer my help in this, but of course I also do not want to step on Lou’s toes πŸ˜‰

Thanks,

Wouter

Hello @wouterbruijning

You can help to translate the plugin via the official WordPress plugin-translation page:

https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/asgaros-forum

Please select “Dutch” there and add new translations in “Stable (latest release)”. Lou should be able to approve your translations after it. πŸ™‚

Thanks for your support, Wouter. For a long time I was the only one adding Dutch translations but now this is a joint effort! I was looking into original text changes every couple of days but since I’m not always available it is a good idea to have 2 people maintaining the Dutch texts. I approved your translations so they should be updated shortly. If @asgaros has you added as translation editor too, you can approve your own translations (I think they don’t need a second eye) which could speed things up.

In translating I always adhered to the Dutch Translation Glossary which helps in maintaining consistency.

Groeten,
Lou
