Avatars are a built-in core-functionality of WordPress. If you want to let your users upload custom avatars, I suggest you to install the following plugin which adds an upload-functionality to user-profiles:

I have this plugin downloaded, and it still doesn’t allow users to edit their avatars, it just takes them to the “my-account” screen.
Can you advise?
Thanks.

Hello Thomas, you advised the plugin of John James Jacoby. That plugin is not tested with recent updates. However, a lot of other plugins that offer the same functionality do. Is there a reason to adjust your advise or isn’t that necessary and can I install Johns plugin with problems to expect.
Is Avatar Privacy of Peter Putzer an alternative you can advise?
Thanks in advance, Rob

I just suggested this plugin because I am using it on different other websites and I know that it is working fine in combination with the Asgaros Forum-plugin. It is true that the plugin didnt get any updates since a certain time periode. However, the mentioned plugin only adds some basic-functionality and dont come with complex changes or additions to the core-system of WordPress. Because of this I think its perfectly fine to use it as long as the reviews dont indicate that there are serious problems with recent versions of WordPress.
Another user also suggested the following plugin:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/avatar-manager/
But I did not test this plugin yet, so I cannot tell you if its working well or not.
