It is better to give it a 404 response. Then the robot will understand that the page does not exist and permanently remove it from the search.

I dont really understand the redirect-issue. As far as I see you get redirected back to the overview at your website. The 302-response is used by WordPress as default for it. I dont know if there is a better alternative number – if so, please let me know.
